The VIPERGAN65DTR from STMicroelectronics is a Quasi-Resonant High Voltage Flyback Controller that has been designed for medium power quasi-resonant zero voltage switching (ZVS) flyback converters. It requires an input voltage of 9-23 V and delivers an output power of up to 65 W. This PMIC integrates a 700 V E-mode power GaN transistor and an embedded sense FET. It operates in the ZVS quasi-resonant mode and includes dynamic blanking time with valley synchronization functions, thereby reducing switching losses and maximizing the overall efficiency at any input line and load condition. This flyback controller consists of a built-in advanced power management function with an adaptive burst mode to achieve a low stand-by power consumption of less than 30 mW. It also incorporates a feed-forward compensation to minimize the maximum output peak power variation over the entire input voltage range.
This controller IC consists of over-voltage protection (OVP), over-temperature protection (OTP), over-load protection (OLP), and brown-in/brown-out protection to considerably increase the safety and reliability of the end product. It is available in a surface-mount package that measures 10 x 6.2 x 1.68 mm and is ideal for high-efficiency power adapters, auxiliary power supplies for appliances, industrial, consumer, and lighting and fast battery charging applications.
