The AP33772 from Diodes Incorporated is a highly Integrated USB Type-C PD3.0/PPS Sink Controller IC that is designed to provide DC power request and control for USB Type-C connector-equipped devices (TCD). This controller IC requires a DC voltage of 3.3 V to 24 V. It is designed to provide a cost-effective solution without the need to integrate external discrete high-voltage components such as LDOs. This sink controller negotiates with an existing PD 3.0 adapter to acquire the required power profile to power the TCD device. It consists of a biphase mark coding (BMC) transceiver and an appropriate protocol handshake process to transmit packets that result in a good eye diagram and high noise immunity. This controller supports I2C communication interfaces.
This RoHS compliant controller IC incorporates overvoltage and overcurrent protection circuitries with an auto-restart function to protect the device against short-circuit-related damages. It is available in a surface-mount package that measures 4 x 4 mm and is ideal for USB Type-C connector-equipped battery-powered devices, USB Type-C connector-equipped DC-power input devices, USB Type-C-to-traditional barrel-connector power-adapter cables, and USB PD3.0 PPS tester applications.
