The KTA1142EUAT-TB from Kinetic Technologies is an IEEE 802.3bt-Compliant Power-Over-Ethernet IC that integrates all the necessary circuitry to design a smart and efficient converter for power-over-ethernet (PoE) and telecom mid-power applications. It requires an input voltage of 37-57 V, an input current of 2700 mA, and delivers an output power of up to 72 W. This PoE device implements all the physical layer powered device (PD) functionalities as required by the IEEE 802.3af-2003, IEEE 802.3at-2009, IEEE 802.3bt-2019 standards. It also has a built-in DC-DC controller that offers features such as adjustable slope compensation, dual complementary low-side drivers with programmable dead time, and programmable frequency dithering. This PoE IC provides the necessary power to the PD devices by incorporating functions such as auto-adjusting of maintain power signature (MPS) and 5-event classification. It can program the DC current up to 2.2 A to support 90 W applications.
This power-over-ethernet IC can also address electromagnetic emission concerns and has several design features that minimize the transmission of system common-mode noise onto the unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable, ensuring high reliability during power transfer. It includes protection capabilities to safeguard against over-temperature, short-circuit, and over-current conditions. This PoE is available in a surface-mount package that measures 4 x 4 mm and is ideal for 5G/LTE base stations, security and web cameras, wireless LAN access points, RFID terminals, and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) applications.
