The Si83414AAA-IF from Skyworks Solutions is an Isolated Multi-Channel Smart Switch IC designed to drive resistive and inductive loads such as solenoids, relays, and lamps commonly used in industrial control systems. It requires an input voltage of 9-32 V and provides an output current (continuous) of 0.7 A. This power switch integrates up to four high-side or low-side switches with low on-resistance. It galvanically isolates every switch using Skyworks’ CMOS isolation technology, thereby offering relatively better reliability compared to traditional optocoupler-based isolation techniques. This switch uses an SPI interface to control all 128 channels and configure, monitor, and clear status indications for diagnostics. It communicates over the diagnostic communication channel, which is independent of all the switch control signals, and has separate isolation channels and constant error checks to ensure long-term reliability.
This switch includes an innovative multi-voltage clamp to handle an unlimited amount of demagnetization energy, an over-current protection (OCP) with a current limiting mode to drive lamp-like loads, open-circuit warning, an over-temperature protection (OTP), and an electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection of 3 kV to ensure a high degree of safety during operation. It is available in a surface-mount package that measures 9 x 9 mm and is ideal for smart solid-state relays, motion controllers, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and industrial data acquisition applications.
