As utility-scale renewable energy installations continue expanding in size and complexity, power conversion systems are playing an increasingly important role in enabling stable grid integration, energy storage management, and high-efficiency power delivery. Addressing these requirements, EPC Power has developed the CAB1000 platform, a modular utility-scale power conversion system (PCS) engineered for large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar infrastructure, microgrids, and grid-support applications. This platform is a scalable and flexible inverter architecture designed to simplify deployment while supporting evolving grid and energy storage requirements.
The CAB1000 platform is based on a modular building-block architecture using approximately 1 MW to 1.5 MW inverter blocks that can be paralleled to support higher system capacities. According to EPC Power, the platform can scale up to 6 MW through parallel system configurations, enabling developers to adapt the same PCS architecture across multiple project sizes while reducing system redesign complexity. The modular approach is intended to simplify installation, commissioning, and long-term system expansion for utility-grade solar and storage deployments.
A major focus of the CAB1000 platform is high-efficiency power conversion combined with fast dynamic response. It offers conversion efficiency levels of up to 99%, helping reduce energy losses in large-scale storage and renewable energy systems. The platform delivers response times as low as 2 milliseconds, enabling rapid power control and grid stabilization functions in applications requiring fast transient response.
The CAB1000 has been developed to support a broad range of advanced grid services increasingly required in modern renewable energy and storage deployments. According to EPC Power, the system supports functions including fast frequency response, voltage support, peak shaving, black-start capability, active harmonic cancellation, power factor correction, and microgrid support. The platform is also designed for grid-forming operation, a capability becoming increasingly important as renewable penetration rises and conventional synchronous generation declines.

The system architecture is compatible with both battery and non-battery energy storage technologies, including lithium-ion and lead-acid storage systems. This inverter platform can also support UPS configurations, including double-conversion and parallel UPS topologies, extending its applicability beyond renewable energy systems into critical infrastructure and data center backup power environments.
Another important aspect of the CAB1000 platform is its focus on reliability and operational continuity. EPC Power specifies system uptime exceeding 99% and incorporates built-in redundancy mechanisms intended to minimize downtime in critical power applications. The modular inverter configuration also supports fault-tolerant system architectures where individual inverter units can continue operating independently within larger parallel installations.
EPC Power has additionally developed turnkey skid-based solutions around the CAB1000 platform for utility-scale energy storage deployments. These integrated systems combine multiple inverters with pad-mounted medium-voltage step-up transformers, low-voltage distribution systems, and monitoring infrastructure into pre-engineered skid assemblies designed to simplify field deployment and reduce installation complexity.
Control and system integration capabilities are also central to the platform’s design. The CAB1000 utilizes Modbus TCP/IP communication interfaces, with CAN support also available for system integration and supervisory control applications. EPC Power further provides modeling support for industry-standard simulation platforms, including PSCAD, PSSE, ASPEN Power Factory, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) environments to assist utility planners, integrators, and developers in system design and validation activities.
The platform has been engineered for deployment across both UL and IEC markets and supports applications in utility-scale solar farms, battery energy storage systems, microgrids, industrial power infrastructure, and grid modernization projects. EPC Power has deployed thousands of CAB1000 units globally as part of large-scale renewable energy and storage installations.
