The LC709204F from onsemi is a Battery Fuel Gauge IC that has been designed for single-cell Lithium-ion/Polymer batteries. It requires an input voltage of 2.5-5 V and an input current of 2 µA. This battery management IC (BMIC) measures the relative state of charge (RSOC) of the battery using the built-in HG-CVR2 algorithm. This algorithm provides accurate RSOC information even under unstable conditions (e.g. temperature fluctuations, loading) and supports immediate gauging after battery insertion. It also eliminates the learning cycle required to understand the gauging operation, which simplifies battery testing and manufacturing process. This fuel gauge IC supports battery lifetime measurements by calibrating state of health, cycle count, and operating time. It also estimates the remaining time to full charging and time to undergo complete drain.
This BMIC includes 3 temperature input pins that sense the temperature with 2 negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistors through an I2C interface. It detects various battery operating conditions such as charging and discharging to provide high reliability. This RoHS-compliant fuel gauge is available in a wafer-level package that measures 1.48 x 1.91 x 0.51 mm and is ideal for smartphones/PDA devices, digital cameras, portable game players, USB-related devices, and wearable/IoT applications.
